The Healthiest Skincare Routine Pre & Post Sun Exposure

To get your skin summer-ready, I turned to Summer Kingsbury, facialist and founder of Skin Frequency, for some expert advice. "It’s crucial to internally prepare your skin by staying well-hydrated and consuming antioxidant-rich foods,” she shares. And when it comes to topical care, Kingsbury recommends products with non-nano zinc, like their Warmth balm. This gem not only provides a physical barrier against the sun’s rays but also eliminates the typical white cast with its cocoa powder formulation. First and foremost, make sure you’re applying SPF to prevent further darkening. Then, Kingsbury advises using their Immortal Serum with Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (THD) and Bakuchiol, a natural retinol alternative, to improve skin firmness and reduce dark spots.

Additionally, Skin Frequency’s Enlighten, packed with Niacinamide and Willow Bark, is another powerhouse. "[Enlighten] works to even out skin tone by inhibiting pigment transfer, boosting collagen production, and exfoliating dead skin cells," adds Kingsbury.
